If this news proves to be true, then Dead Island 2 will have gone through four different studios before its release.Īs of now, the rumour is unverified. While these statements could well apply to a theoretical Homefront 3, they are equally pertinent to Dead Island 2, given what is already known about the latter title. The level designer listing points to Dambuster working on an “established AAA franchise”, whereas a game programmer listing namedrops the sandbox genre, stating the mission “to deliver immersive experiences and emergent gameplay scenarios.” While the choice of engine proves nothing definitively, CryEngine was used to create Dambusters’s previous game, Homefront: The Revolution, while previous iterations of Dead Island 2 have been built using Unreal. Each listing asks for experience with Unreal Engine 4. The studio has recently put up a number of job listings on its website, including a facial animator, senior level designer, programmers, and a few more experienced positions. Now the following tweet by ex-YAGER developer Jan David Hassel has complicated things:Īccording to Hassel, the project may now be being handled by Britain-based Deep Silver subsidiary Dambusters. The game, which has been in a bit of implicit development hell for the past few years, has switched hands through several developers, from its original studio Techland to YAGER and then to Sumo Digital.Īll that has been said about the project is that it remains in development, with the latest reassurance coming in July this year. Dead Island is a non-linear first-person shooter in which you find yourself on an island plunged into chaos. The mysterious future of Dead Island 2 has been thrust into further intrigue following a tweet from an ex-developer.
